The Best Air Purifiers to Cover Smoke Smells

Smoke not only smells bad but is harmful to the lungs.
Smoke is a very unpleasant smell for many who inhale it. The smoke smell can get into clothes and other objects. Smoke can seem to seep through just about anything and often cannot be contained within rooms. Many air purifiers have been created that can suck the smoke odor out of the air. However, these purifiers can only handle so much smoke before they simply become ineffective. One of the most common sources of smoke is from cigarettes. Have a question? Get an answer from an appliance repair specialist now!

Ultraviolet Lights
Smoke air purifiers are often created to remove the smell of cigarette smoke. The purifier engages in ionization (removing charged particles), filters out carbon and also sanitizes the air using an ultraviolet (UV) light, according to Inspired Living.

Smoke Eliminator
The Airpura T-600 Smoke Eliminator Air Purifier is designed specifically for removing smoke from heavily smoky areas. This large purifier has a very deep and thick carbon filter. Felt gaskets seal the filter chamber to keep the smoke smell from seeping out, according to Inspired Living. The filter can handle up to 25 simultaneous smokers in one room.

The Multi-tech
The multi-tech S3500 has a very powerful fan that can remove smoke smells from large rooms. The smoke-filled air is sucked into highly efficient filters that can trap particles, including smoke particles, cleansing the air, according to Inspired Living. Negative ion pollutants are destroyed by the UV light contained in this purifier as are any airborne bacteria.

Air Oasis
The air oasis light commercial purifier is often used in areas where there is a heavy amount of smoke, such as a smoky bar. This purifier not only removes smoke smells but is also one of the best purifiers for removing and killing harmful bacteria, which makes the Air Oasis a useful addition to medical facilities, according to Inspired Living. The purifier also requires very little maintenance and is capable of removing smoke smells from clothing if the purifier is placed inside of the closet.

Vents
The most effective way to remove smoke from an area is to have smokers smoke in a certain designated area that has powerful vents that continually remove the air from the room while replacing the air with fresh air, according to Get Rid of Smoke Smell Air Purifier. Companies that do not have designated smoking areas can ask smokers to smoke outside. However, these outside smokers sometimes harm those entering the building. Some institutions do not allow smoking anywhere nearby.

Can You Use a High Pressure Washer On Vinyl Siding?

Vinyl siding is one of the easiest types of siding to maintain and clean. Attractive, long-lasting vinyl siding can be achieved by keeping it clean. One of the fastest ways to clean vinyl is to use a high pressure washer, which is an appropriate and acceptable way of cleaning vinyl. Learn more about pressure washing to ensure that you do it properly and take the right safety precautions. Have a question? Get an answer from a cleaning expert now!

Using a High Pressure Washer
Properly using the pressure washer on the vinyl siding will create better results and will ensure that the vinyl looks better and lasts longer. Always spray the pressurized water so that the water jet is hitting the siding at a 90 degree angle. This will prevent you from pushing the water behind the siding. Always stand at least 3 feet from the siding and never spray closer than 1 foot otherwise you might crack and weaken the siding. Work from the bottom of the siding to the top to make sure that the entire wall of siding dries at the same time. This will ensure that you don't get water streaks.

Purchase vs. Rent Vinyl Siding
The decision whether to purchase or rent a high pressure washer will depend on your needs and circumstance. Purchase a pressure washer if you have a large house with a lot of vinyl siding that you want to clean regularly, but keep in mind that you can also use pressure washers to clean concrete floors and walls. Rent a pressure washer if you are cleaning a small area of vinyl siding or if you find that you don't have a lot of use for one. Contact your local hardware or home improvement store to rent or buy a pressure washer.

Choosing a High Pressure Washer
Choosing the right High pressure washer will produce the best cleaning results for the vinyl siding. Pressure washers that have adjustable pressure are more versatile. They allow you to use lower pressure for cleaning normal dirt and buildup and more pressure for removing tough stains like sap or bird droppings. For vinyl, you will not need to use more than 3000 psi to remove even tough stains. Choose a pressure washer that will allow you to dissolve cleaning solution in the water tank without clogging. This versatility will allow you to add bleach to the solution to remove mold or mildew.

Safety
If used improperly, high pressure washers can cause serious injury. Prevent this by always wearing gloves and goggles when the machine is on. This will prevent accidental injury from water pressure directed at your face or hands. Additionally, keep children and pets away from the area while working. Never pressure wash vinyl siding that might have lead paint on it.

The Best Air Purifiers for Cigarette Smoke

A man holds a lit cigarette over an ash tray.
Air purifiers can improve the air quality inside your home by trapping allergy-inducing particles from pollen, dust and cigarette smoke. However, not all air purifiers are equally capable of filtering out specific types of pollution. If you live with a heavy smoker and need relief, choose an air purifier designed to trap both the particles and gaseous elements of cigarette smoke. Have a question? Get an answer from an appliance repair specialist now!

Honeywell 50250
If you don't suffer from severe allergies or asthma, but would like to have cleaner air in a home you share with a smoker, the mid-range Honeywell 50250 is the best choice, according to the Galt Home Buying Guide. Available as of early 2011 for $150, the Galt Guide states that this high-efficiency particulate arresting (HEPA) filter traps 99 percent of all particles. This will remove almost all parts of cigarette smoke from the air. Some gaseous elements will be left behind, but the smell will be gone and the smoke won't leave a film on your walls or ceiling.
Honeywell 50250
IQAir HealthPro Plus HEPA
The top-rated air purifier on the Air Purifier Power website is the IQAir HealthPro Plus HEPA because of its ability to clean indoor air more thoroughly than other models. People with severe breathing issues who need the cleanest air possible should find that this purifier is capable of producing air with zero particles left in it, based on multiple expert tests conducted by Consumer's Digest, Newsweek and other testers. A prefilter and HEPA media filter trap large and fine particles, but the Plus model also contains an odor and chemical trapping filter that captures the gaseous elements of cigarette smoke. As of 2014 it retails for around $900.

Morck Air HealthMate
The Morck Air HealthMate provides better air filtration than smaller models but doesn't have the high price tag of the top of the line purifiers. It can't capture some of the smallest particles that make up chemical fumes, reports Consumer Search, but its HEPA and carbon filtration pack trap all of the elements of cigarette smoke. Unlike models that require monthly filter replacements, the HealthMate runs for three to five years without a new filter. It is available for $100 more or less as of 2015. http://www.morck-cleaning.com/products_info/Air-Purifier-MK-AP1001-275061.html

Rabbit Air BioGS
Lower-end air purifiers like the Honeywell 50250 are a good choice for cigarette odor control in small rooms, but if your living room is around 600 square feet, you may need the Rabbit Air BioGS. Designed for larger rooms, the Galt Home Buying Guide website notes that this popular model can handle large spaces and features washable filters. The HEPA filter traps 99 percent of smoke particles, so allergy sufferers who are reacting to the gases in cigarette smoke may not find it helpful. As of 2014 this model retails for $330.

How to Steam Clean Tile Floors

Steam Clean Tile Floors
Steam cleaning carpets and upholstery is a common practice; however, steam cleaning tile floors is not so typical, because most people still use mops to clean them. The process of steam cleaning tile is effective—hot steam has the ability to free stuck-on grime and dirt (even in the grout lines) while sanitizing the floor. Always check with your tile and grout manufacturers before steam cleaning your tile floor to make sure it's safe and you don't void any kind of warranty.

Things You'll Need:
--Water
--Rag
--Home Steam cleaner

Instructions

1.Sweep the floor to remove all dirt and debris.

2.Set up your home steam cleaner according to manufacturer instructions, usually by filling up the water tank (often with hot water) and then attaching the tank back on the steamer. You do not need to add any cleaner.

3.Use an attachment with an opening about 4 to 6 inches long and an inch wide, if possible.

4.Turn the steamer cleaner on, and go over one row of tile. As you go, wipe up any residue with a clean wet rag. Continue up and down each row, until your floor is complete, rinsing the rag with clean water as necessary.

5.Attach the wand tool with the smallest opening so that the steam that comes out is concentrated.

6.Go back over the grout (make sure it's in good condition and not crumbling) with the wand tool, holding it about 1 to 2 inches away. Go slowly, letting the steam and water clean the fine grout lines. Wipe away the wet residue as you go with the rag. Continue to rinse the rag in clean water as necessary.

Air Purifier Health Benefits

Air purifiers can significantly reduce the many harmful contaminants

More and more studies have shown that air purifiers can significantly reduce the many harmful contaminants found indoors by filtering them from homes and workplaces. Installing these machines can eliminate pollutants that cause some of the most common upper respiratory illnesses, colds, allergy irritation and asthma. Have a question? Get an answer from an appliance repair specialist now!

The ultimate health benefit of air purifiers is the newfound ability to breathe easily without the numerous harmful particles that cause increasing instances of illnesses for greater numbers of people.

Function
By directing air through a filter, air purifying devices catch the potentially harmful airborne pollutants that cause a range of illnesses and are especially threatening to sufferers of allergies and asthma. When indoor air is sent multiple times through a filter, the machine is able to catch particles both large and small, ultimately purifying the air up to 97% and freeing the inhabitant of unsafe contaminants such as dust, pollen, bacteria, spores and viruses.

4 step air filtering

Potential
A decent air purifier will provide health benefits through removal of most of the airborne particles within a room or building, reducing the chances of allergy symptoms among those who live there. Since it is estimated that indoor air pollutants directly cause or worsen nearly half of all major health problems, removal of these harmful materials can prevent colds, asthma, headaches and allergic irritation of the nose and eyes, among other maladies.

Considerations
While air purifiers can greatly alleviate many common symptoms, it is important to remember that these machines alone have not been proven to prevent allergy symptoms. Air filters are able to block airborne toxins before they are inhaled, but not those potentially harmful particles that are already absorbed by walls or household objects.

Instead of relying solely on air purifiers to prevent particles from circulating, proper ventilation, including occasional airing out of the home or office, is key. Before purchasing an air filter, it is wise to first try and determine what types of airborne pollutants exist in the room or building.

Warning
The potential health benefits of air purifiers can be negated by the unwanted effects of certain types of filters that produce ozone. Generally, this occurs with electrostatic or ionic air purifiers, which electrostatically charge the initial harmful airborne particles but also leak ozone in the process. The result can be illness of the lungs, chest pain and intensified asthma and allergy symptoms.

To avoid ozone-emitting filters and get the most health advantages out of air purifiers, industry experts advise using HEPA filters, as they have been proven highly effective in filtering indoor air without projecting any side products.

Expert Insight
Air filter expert Jim Rosenthal of AllergyClean.com encourages readers to employ a comprehensive approach to allergy-related asthma reduction rather than depending completely on air purifiers to do the job.

This means buying dust mite-proof mattress and pillow coverings, as these particles cause a large share of allergic symptoms in the home. Rosenthal sites the Inner City Asthma Study, which demonstrated the heightened effectiveness of using HEPA air filters in conjunction with mite-resistant bed coverings.

Do I Leave the Air Purifiers on All Day?

Each purifier has its own strengths and weaknesses.
Though they come from numerous manufacturers, air purifiers – also known as air cleaners – all serve the same purpose: filtering indoor air pollution such as dander, dust, mold, pollen and smoke, thus reducing nagging allergies and asthma attacks. Though most air purifiers cater to all-day operation, each individual unit is different. Consult your purifier's instruction manual to find what's best for your specific model. Have a question? Get an answer from an appliance repair specialist now!

All-Day Use
Air purifiers suppliers and manufacturers generally recommend running air purifiers all day for maximum operation. For instance, air purifier manufacturer MORCK says that running an air purifier all the time provides “year-round benefits.” Honeywell, another manufacturer, echoes this sentiment, encouraging owners to run air cleaners as much as possible, or all the time for the greatest efficiency. As a general rule of thumb, use your purifier's medium setting when running it all day for energy efficient operation. Use the high setting for quick air circulation and filtration; use the low setting for quiet operation.

Effectiveness
Depending on the size of the model, air purifiers filter the air in spaces ranging from about 100 square feet to 5,000 square feet. In most cases, however, a purifier will not purify the air in an entire home, even if you leave it on all day, due mostly to walls or other partitions. Approach air purification on a room-by-room basis, installing units in the rooms you occupy most. Use an air purifier in the bedroom first, as most people spend about a third of their time there. Fan speeds, in-room airflow, insulation quality and the proliferation of pollutants all affect the effectiveness of air purifiers.

Energy Consumption
According to air purifier supplier Morck Electric Appliance, the average HEPA – or high efficiency particulate air – filter-equipped air purifier uses about 50 watts on its lowest setting and 200 watts on its highest setting. In comparison, the average computer uses about 365 watts. As such, most purifiers won't leave a significant mark on a power bill, even when running all day. Look for air purifiers with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star seal; these units are more energy-efficient than air purifiers without the certification.

Filters
Though running the air purifier all day is recommended, doing so causes air filters to run their course more quickly than sporadic operation. Though the typical HEPA filter needs replacement only once every three or five years, pre-filters and carbon filters need replacement every three to six months. Consult your air purifier's user manual for filter changing guidelines.

Helpful tips on How to Clean House Siding

Helpful tips for cleaning exterior siding, including techniques for removing mildew and using a pressure washer
Is your home’s siding looking like it could use a facelift? If it is, a thorough cleaning may bring it back to life. Even when siding looks like it desperately needs a new coat of paint, it may really only need a good washing, that you need a high pressure washer.

Pressure washer for home's siding
You won’t be able to tell for sure if your siding needs painting until you wash it-which is an important first step if you need to paint. The challenge will be to do this as effectively and easily as possible, without damaging the siding.
The best way to clean siding will depend on the particular type of siding and the situation-your time, tools, energy, and whether your house is one story or taller.

pressure washer's cleaning
The most time-consuming—but thorough-way to wash all types of siding, from wood to vinyl, is with sudsy water, a hose, and a stiff-bristle nylon scrub brush screwed onto the end of a telescoping pole. For lower parts of the siding, you can just handhold the scrub brush.

before and after by pressure washer cleaning
To hand scrub siding, mix TSP or a non-phosphate substitute with water according to label directions (often about 1/2 pound TSP to 2 gallons of water). Choose a bucket that the brush will easily fit into. Then, wearing rubber gloves and any other protective gear recommended on the detergent label, scrub the siding from the top down, working in areas about 20 feet wide and the full height of the wall. If possible, work in the shade.

Rinse with clear water as you finish each 20-foot section. Scrub in line with the siding panels (horizontally for typical lap siding). If the siding has signs of mildew, see How to Remove Mildew From Siding.

Hand scrubbing a house is a big job. And the bigger your house, the more you are going to feel like you are in training. If your home is more than a single level, be sure you follow all ladder safety precautions.

To make the work much, much easier, consider using a High pressure washer but only if you have vinyl, steel, or aluminum siding. While pressure washing is a good alternative to hand scrubbing, be aware that it may not do quite as thorough a job.

If your siding is made of wood, brick, stucco, or has been painted with paint that may contain lead, don’t use a pressure washer as it can cause the paint to peel, erode the surface, and drive water into the interior of the walls.

The Car Washer Must Make Sure To Complete All Three Of The Necessary Steps

Of all the many jobs that people have to complete on a regular basis, the one that is often most forgotten is that of car washer. We all remember to act as maids around the home maintaining the interior and exterior of the home, but the car is taken for granted simply because it isn't as large and lasting an investment as the home. So instead of maintaining the interior and exterior of a vehicle as we should, too many vehicle owners neglect the necessary care and maintenance of their automobile.

When acting as a car washer, it is important to note that the interior of the vehicle requires just as much attention as the exterior of the vehicle. That means that more attention must be given than to simply remove all trash and debris that can build up on the inside. The upholstery and carpeting must also be maintained. There are upholstery cleaners for both the cloth and leather interior of the vehicle. The cloth upholstery cleaner is usually also effective on the carpeting. The car washer to protect the leather from oils in the skin and from attracting dirt must use the leather cleaner. It will also help the leather to maintain its soft and buttery texture instead of turning hard and cracking.

As a high pressure washer for car washing, the interior of the vehicle must also be vacuumed. And removing any lingering odors is also part of the task. Lingering odors can prevent a vehicle from selling or maintaining its trade in value. There are many odor neutralizers on the market today that will make this a simple task to accomplish.

The car washer must make sure to complete all three of the necessary steps involved in the exterior cleaning process as well. The vehicle must be cleaned using any variety of cleaning products. There are traditional methods that involve a hose and buckets, or there are new cleaning methods that are completely waterless. The cleaner is simply sprayed on and wiped off. The same is true for the polishing step and the protecting step.
