Reasons you should have an air purifier

Every day we breathe in the air around us. Having clean air can make a big difference in the way we feel. It would appear that indoor air would be clean, but in reality there are many pollutants lingering. Indoor air is dirty and can trigger allergies and asthma attacks. Pet dander, dust and volatile organic compounds slowly build up in homes. This is especially true during the winter months when doors and windows can remain closed for days on end. Owning an air purifier can clean the air inside the home and remove very small particles which trigger allergy and asthma attacks. Everyone who owns a home should invest in a decent quality air purifier.

Pregnant women and parents of young children should definitely own an air purifier. When pregnant, most women are concerned with their lifestyle and eating habits. Owning an air purifier can help pregnant women breathe easier and reduce some of their worries. New mothers can put one in the nursery to soothe an infant and clean the air. The constant sound of an air purifier can block out noise and help a fussy infant get some rest. Most parents would also like to reduce the amount of volatile organic compounds that are released from new furniture and other items.

Both children and adults who have allergies or asthma should have an air purifier in their room. This is especially true if pets are living in the household. Pet dander, dust or pollen can trigger a terrible allergy attack for those who are allergic. Investing in an air purifier can help improve the quality of the air and make breathing easier.

For people that live in a polluted city owning an air purifier can make a world of difference. High levels of smog can effect people who have sensitive respiratory tracts. This can cause fatigue, sore throat and a runny nose. Symptoms are similar to allergies. It is important to keep the air inside the home clean and a purifier is an effective choice.

Even healthy individuals benefit from owning an air purifier. For those who have trouble sleeping without some sort of background noise, an air purifier can be the perfect choice. It serves a function and drowns out annoying sounds. Investing in an air purifier is safeguarding you and your family's health.

Steam Cleaning a Boarding Kennel

There are many articles available that give you step-by-step instructions on cleaning a professional boarding kennel. The best advice these articles give you is to separate the cleaning process into the age or condition of the dog, such as, puppy, adult dog and sick or injured dogs. This is not only a good idea when cleaning it is also a good idea at all boarding times.

However, all of the articles I have read make the same mistake...they tell you what chemical-based cleaners to use and in what proportion to water. The problem with this is that some dogs, actual quite a few, can be harmed by the very chemical-based cleaners you are using to clean their kennel. In addition, any allergies suffered by the people cleaning the kennels can be adversely effected by these cleaners.

There is an alternative to chemical-based cleaners. That alternative is cleaning with only water. Doesn't sound like that would work does it? Well, it will work just fine if you incorporate a steam cleaner into your cleaning regimen. Steam cleaners use only normal tap water heated to temperatures of at least 212 F. The water in most steam cleaners is heated to temperatures from 230 F to 325 F. This insures that the steam vapor kills all fleas, flea larvae, bacteria, germs, mold and mildew in and around the kennel. There is one brand of steam clean, the Ladybug steam cleaners equipped with TANCS, that will even clean up after a dog with parvovirus. You can find the test results for the Ladybug steam cleaners on the author's web site.

When cleaning a professional boarding kennel I recommend using a two-step cleaning process that includes both a pressure washer and a steam cleaner. The pressure washer can use either cold or hot water and can be powered by either gas or electricity. It does not matter if the pressure washer uses cold or hot water because the steam cleaner will provide the heat needed to sanitize and disinfect the area being cleaned. However, I do recommend an industrial electric pressure washer because it is quieter than a gas pressure washer and much more environmentally friendly.

The first thing you should do is to makes sure the dog is removed far enough from the kennel to not be in the way while cleaning. Once the dog is removed start the industrial electric pressure washer and begin moving the debris and waste to one corner of the kennel where it can be scooped up and removed. Depending on the type of materials the walls are made of, perhaps concrete or something similar, I would recommend thoroughly washing them down with the pressure washer removing any lose particles that may have found their way to the walls.

To save time make sure that the steam cleaner is plugged in and heating while you are cleaning with the pressure washer. Once you have completed your cleaning with the pressure washer it is time to turn to the steam cleaner. For this article we will assume you are using the Ladybug steam cleaner Equipped with TANCS.

To begin cleaning with the steam cleaner I would recommend you use the rectangle brush and start by steam cleaning the walls and ceiling of the kennel. The next step would be to steam clean the floor of the kennel. Go over both surfaces thoroughly not missing any spots on either the walls or the floor to be certain you are eliminating all fleas, flea larvae, bacteria, germs, mold and mildew in and around the kennel.

Once you have completely cleaned the walls and the floor with the rectangle brush I recommend that you remove the rectangle brush and replace it with one of the small round brushes. The 30 mm brash brush is good if the kennel is a typical concrete kennel. With the 30 mm round brass brush you now want to thoroughly steam clean all of the corners in the kennel where the walls meet and where the walls meet the floor and ceiling. These are grounds where nasty little things can gather and grow and eventually have a negative effect on the dog that occupies the kennel.

After completing your cleaning with the steam cleaner the kennel may still be somewhat wet. This wetness is not from the steam cleaner since the steam vapor is only about 5% water. The wetness is left over from using the pressure washer. If there are any puddles of water you may want to sweep them out with a broom and then allow some time - depending on the weather perhaps 5 to 15 minutes - for the kennel to dry before putting the dog back.

One person should be able to clean a single kennel in approximately 10 to 15 minutes while two people - one using the pressure washer and one following on with the steam cleaner - should be able to finish in half that time. Once completed, a kennel cleaned in this manner would be clean enough for the dog's owner to sleep in, let alone the dog.

Morck Cleaning Tips - Pressure Cleaning

1. To find optimal cleaning results, hold your lance at the distance where the water impact sounds its loudest. Ensure that you are not holding it too close or too far away from the surface.

2. To increase the life of your high pressure hose if you do not have a hose reel, unscrew or unclick it from the machine after use for storage. It is also far easier to roll up your hose by doing so.

3. When finished with using your High pressure cleaner and it has been disconnected from both your power and water sources, always press the trigger gun to release the pressure built up in your machine.

Effectively Remove Bees From Your Home

One warm and sunny day I was enjoying my patio at my humble abode when I noticed a some trouble buzzing around a support column. No, it couldn't be. Yes, it is. Bees! Bees are living in the soffit of my patio and I had no idea until now. I am very aware of everything that goes on under my roof and I was very surprised to learn that I had a massive bee hive on the rear of my house.

This bee hive is the worst kind. It cannot be seen. Bees are coming and going through a gap between the brick and the molding and have made a nest in a very well protected area. Since the nest  is not visible, I have no idea what size of bee colony that I have.

At first, I notice a large swarm of bees from lunch to mid evening. A swarm so massive that I cant sit outside anymore from fear of getting a bee sting. I don't even know what kind of bee has infested my home. I go to my computer and search the web for bee information. What I find is pretty good. I have honey bees. This type of bee is not the aggressive Africanized bee that has migrated to North America in recent years.

Secondly, I search for bee keepers, exterminators, animal services and fire department. To my surprise, no one will bother with bees except bee specialists. Specialists are not ultra expensive neither cheap. Every price I was given seemed unfairly high. Many people I contacted didn't return my calls or email. With my experience unfolding non favorably, I decided to buy bee killer and spray it in the hole of the hive at night when the bees are not active.  Little good came from the bug spray.

After emptying several cans of spray, I begun to realize that I have a serious problem and unless I forfeit big money I cant get anyone to help me. Public services even shrugged their shoulders and told me to call a bee specialist.  I bought borax powder and  spread it at the opening of the bee hive, but that didn't work either.

Next, I began a serious search on the internet for a solution. There has to be something I can do with having to spend an unacceptable amount of money to rid my house of a pest that numbers in the thousands. Each one with a little stinger on it. After several days of internet searching and trying other insignificant solutions, I found something that blew my mind.

A bug zapper is the last thing I would expect to kill a bee colony. But I read several reviews and saw positive feedback. The greatest part is that I didn't need to buy one. I already had a bug zapper. I over looked it a few days prior looking for a bee solution. I mount the electronic bug killing apparatus next to the bee hive passage and plug it in. Immediately, I see smoke, sparks and  hear frying sounds. Bees are dying.

After several days of this favorable discovery, I quickly realized that I have so many bees that I need something additional or the extermination could take a long time. From previous internet searching I remembered seeing videos of bee professionals using vacuum cleaners to collect live bees. I scrambled to get my garage vacuum cleaner and mounted the hose up the brick column positioning the end at the bee hive opening.

I plugged the vacuum cleaner in and the results were amazing. A few hours of vacuum cleaner use far exceeded the bug zapper. I highly recommend using the two apparatuses together to fight a serious infestation which is what I had. All other recommendations I found applauds removing the bee hive once the bees are gone. I will try my luck and not remove the hive but I will fill the bee hive holes with insulation to prevent more bees entering the soffit area of my home to make another nest.

I felt compelled to share this information with the rest of the free world because I think it is a shame that home owners cant get help with such a problem without forfeiting big money. The methods I described above do work, but be careful as to not get any bee stings.

Cleaning Your Car Using a Pressure Washer

Cleaning the mud and dirt on cars has never been easier thanks to the power of pressure washers.  However, if you plan on cleaning your car using a pressure washer, you need to be wary that not all pressure washers are made the same as some are more powerful than others.  Too much power on a pressure washer can potentially do more damage to your car as it can strip off the paint instead of cleaning it.  This is why electric pressure washers are highly suggested for this purpose.

There are many factors that could contribute to the wearing of the paint and looks of your vehicle, such as acid rain, snow, heat, and dust.  This is why cleaning your car at least every two weeks is highly suggested not only to prevent wear, but also to make your car look clean.  The reason behind this is simple, if a car is clean, dirt, mud, dust, and snow will have a harder time sticking to it while the heat of the sun will be reduced as many of its rays will be reflected off by the shine of the paint.

If you haven't used a pressure washer before, it is suggested to take a few minutes of practice and have a feel for the gun and learn what it takes to have a more efficient spray pattern.  Make sure to use both hands to have a better control of the pressure washer wand.  Also, make sure to point the spray downwards unless it is necessary to aim the spray upwards.  Another thing you need to remember when pressure washing is to make sure your feet are properly planted on terra firma.  Using a pressure while perched up on a ladder or a flimsy scaffold is an accident waiting to happen as the sudden burst of water may cause you to lose balance and fall off.

When cleaning your car with your pressure washer, make sure to attach the appropriate pressure washer nozzle, often the green-colored tip, which is highly suited for cleaning cars.  Spray your car thoroughly with around 3 – 6 feet of distance.  If you require more pressure, just move the wand closer to the surface of the car.  To get the best result, it is suggested to work on small sections at a time.  When it comes to rinsing off the detergent in your car, turn off your washer and replace the green nozzle with a white one as this nozzle covers more area which perfect for rinsing.  Make sure to rinse your car until it is free of any detergents.

How to Use a Wet-Dry Vacuum to Clean a Carpet?

A wet-dry vac is a vacuum that picks up dry dirt and liquids from many types of surfaces, so it can clean up spills or cleaning solutions in your carpet. Carpets hold on to stains, solid soil, bacteria and mildew. Before you decide to clean your carpet with any liquid solution, you should be prepared to spend a lot of time drying it. Wet-dry vacuums can perform this step in cleaning your carpet, but the work will not be easy.

How To Get Your Carpet Ready
Remove furniture from your room so it won't get damp. Damp furniture will lead to mold. Vacuum your dry carpet first. You can use the wet-dry vac or your usual household vacuum. Vacuum all of the solid soil from your carpet.

If you have stains in your carpeting, apply a carpet stain remover and wait the appropriate amount of time, as indicated on the packaging.

Prepare a solution of carpet cleaner and water. The directions for mixing the cleaner with water will be listed on the bottle of cleaner. Wet-dry vacs only pick up wet solutions; they do not disperse them evenly over your carpet. You will need to do this by hand. I recommend using an ordinary watering can. Once you have the solution down, make sure it has spread evenly. To do this, use a stiff-bristled push broom or a deck brush. Brush the entire carpeted area.

Using Your Wet-Dry Vac
The filter you will need for wet pick-up with your wet-dry vac depends on the brand and model you are using, so check the owner's manual for the exact filter model.

When sucking up the cleaning solution from your carpet, do one section at a time. Using a floor attachment, press firmly to be sure you are removing moisture from the deepest area within the carpet. Drag slowly backward, and overlap your last pass with the next one.

Wait until each section is dried completely before moving on. Some areas may take more time than others.

Anatomy of a Pressure Washer

Anatomy of a Pressure Washer

To make cleaning easier and faster, cleaning agents such as detergents can also be used in conjunction with the water stream, assisting in the cleaning process. These types of pressure washers are found in many car washes.

Precautions
Though useful, there are several precautions that users should always follow when using a pressure washer, particularly for those with 1200 bars (30,000psi) and more.

According to experts, the water that supply's the pressure washer, such as tap, should equally flow or superior to that of the washer, so that the pump is never starved, which can damage the motor.

Another is that the water from the nozzle is said to be powerful enough to strip flesh from bones. Objects in the water supply can be ejected from the nozzle at great velocities. The cleaning process can propel objects from the surface being cleaned, also at great velocities.

Cleaning Vinyl Floors Using Steam Cleaners

Cleaning Vinyl Floors Using Steam Cleaners
It is important to keep your vinyl floor clean not only to look its best, but also to increase its lifespan.look like new and ready to use for years again. To make this task easy and efficient, use tools and attachments of these vapor steam cleaners and steam vacuum cleaners.

How to clean vinyl floors using steam cleaner?

Unwaxed vinyl floors - it is important to remember not to allow the heat to build on any kind of vinyl that can affect its texture. To remove a stubborn spot, use one small brush and it works fast.

Very dirty waxed vinyl floors - can be cleaned either a vapor steam cleaner or steam vacuum cleaner. On vapor steam cleaner, use the large rectangular brush. As the dry steam turns on move it back and forth motion like vacuuming then wipe with cotton, industrial sized paper towels or better yet, a microfiber cloth. On the other hand, use the floor squeegee and brush at low or medium pressure when using steam vacuum cleaners.

Moderately dirty waxed vinyl floors -- just like the method used above for a very dirty vinyl floors by using vapor steam cleaners with the large rectangular brush. Only this time, cover it with a towel, cloth or microfibre for improved efficiency in a vacuuming motion. Same also when using a steam vacuum cleaner with the floor squeegee and brush at low or medium pressure.

For heavily soiled floors - use the steam cleaner and vacuum separately for a most effective result. Slightly soiled floors use the steam cleaner and vacuum features simultaneously for even faster cleaning.

Clean Your Homes Siding With A Pressure Washer

Clean Your Homes Siding With A Pressure Washer
Pressure washing which is also referred to as power washing is the best way to clean your house of mold and mildew. It is also a must to prep your home for painting and other projects. Basically pressure washing a house's exterior will clean dirt and build up from the atmosphere off your siding material. One thing to be careful about is when pressure washing a house is not the same as a drive way. Only low pressure (around 300 psi) should be used. A high pressure spray will damage the siding material. Your first question to a pressure washing contractor should be 'what pressure do you clean with'. If they use high pressure (more than 300 psi), drop them like a hot potato! If you will be doing the job yourself, be sure your pressure washing unit has a house wash tip with it. If you plan on getting a new coat of paint on your house, it is essential to get the house washed. This will create a clean foundation for the paint to adhere to.

Pressure washing a house is safe for almost all siding products like metal, vinyl, brick and hardy plank. Again this only applied to low pressure techniques. High pressure on brick and mortar will most likely damage it. Vinyl siding is also easily damaged if care is not taken. If your house has wood siding then low pressure cleaning will also keep it looking good. To clean the house a mixture of cleaning agents is mixed into the water that is sprayed onto the house. After sitting for a few minutes it is then rinsed off. For moldy siding a mix of bleach is an excellent cleaner. For wood special detergents are needed that will not damage wood fibers. If you are just needing a general cleaning then an all purpose house wash mix will be used to remove the grime that has built up on your house over time. Most of these cleaners can be found at local home improvement or pressure washing stores.

To get started you will need to find a local rental place and obtain the proper size unit. I suggest a quality brand such as a Karcher power washer. Since you will be using low pressure to clean your house a unit of around 3000-3500 psi will be more than enough. The only reason to have this much pressure is to reach the high eves of a second story house. How do you get low pressure out of 3000 psi ? You need to use a special tip on the wand, sometimes called a house wash tip. It has a large hole which creates a lower pressure stream but with more volume. This will bring the psi down to around 300 psi. To mix in the cleaning material the unit should have a 'down streaming' function. This is a small hose you put into a bucket of cleaning solution. When you start up the unit a vacuum is created that will draw up the solution and mix it with the water as it comes out the hose. This usually creates a mixture of around 5-1 or 7-1. You will need to read the cleaning solutions directions to be sure you are using the correct amount of solution.

The best way to actually clean your house is to start at a corner. Slowly work your way across to the other end of the house. As you go spray the stream of water down at the bottom of the house and work your way up to the eves of the roof. Always work from the bottom up, this will reduce the chance for streaks to appear. Be sure to saturate every inch of the side you are working on. If you do not then you will have spots where the bleach and cleaner did not touch. Once you get to the end of the house you will need to pull the 'down streaming' hose out of the cleaning solution bucket and go back over the side of the house again, this time with only clean water coming out the hose. Thoroughly rinse the siding. You should now be done with that side of the house. Put the 'down streaming' house back into the solution bucket and begin the next side of the house.

Start with the nozzle about 3 feet from the wall and work your way closer until you feel the spray is strong enough but not too strong. Never get closer than 12 inches from the siding or you may damage it; do not point it at windows and avoid aiming it upward, where it might drive water under the siding. Remember, this is extremely high pressure, so never point the nozzle at anyone and be sure to wear safety glasses. Also keep the wand, the water, and yourself away from any electrical wires or devices.

New Vacuum Cleaners: How Long Should They Last?

New Vacuum Cleaners: How Long Should They Last?
Customers ask us often "How long will this vacuum cleaner last?". There are several things to look for in your next vacuum that will make your vacuum cleaner last longer.

What is the main casing made from? Metal last longer than plastic. A metal casing will last decades unless you hit it with a hammer. And epoxy casing will be lightweight, and will also last for decades. But even the cheapest plastic casing will last decades unless someone breaks it.

Motors will either have a metal or plastic shell. A motor with a plastic shell will seal in heat trapping it until it wears out the motor. A metal motor will conduct heat away from the inside of the motor. Metal motors last longer than plastic motors. Be sure to ask your local dealer about the type of motor the vacuum cleaner has.

Metal roller brushes are the best and most durable. Wood is less durable, but will usually not break. Plastic roller brushes are most common on the least expensive vacuums. Plastic roller brushes will melt if hair gets caught in the roller bearings.

The actual brushes should be of natural fibers, commonly known as "horsehair". Nylon brushes are less durable, although the difference in brushes is rather minor.

The warranty of the machine will tell you a lot about the expected lifetime of the vacuum cleaner.

A one year warranty is pretty standard. A three or four year warranty meas that the manufacturer expects the vacuum to last much longer.

The reality is that if you do not abuse your vacuum cleaner, it will serve you for many years.

Effective floor and grout cleaning means that you can quickly remove unwanted germs, grime and bacteria from ceramic tile and grout. You can easily clean it by hand with a ceramic tile cleaner or by using a grout steam cleaner.  Don’t want to let discoloration of the grout lines ruin your idea of a clean bathroom!

Finding the Best Ceramic Tile Floor Cleaner

After cleaning and reading a lot of consumer reviews, we have included a list, in order of the best types of ceramic tile cleaners.

1) Organic Tile Cleaners and diluted cleaners – one of the best types of organic type. He uses a mixture of baking soda, and vinegar. This has clean power and also whitens the grout lines. If you do not procrastinate cleaning your tiling grout, it doesn’t get very bad, and you can clean in just a few minutes.

2) Steam cleaners, are effective at penetrating and removing tough grout stains. They do an excellent job, for not using any cleaning chemicals. Most of the time you can get dirt and grime out simply by waving your steam cleaner over the area. The nice part about cleaning with a steam cleaner is that is the easiest way to clean. After you’re done, simply wipe up the water.

3) Kaboom and grout cleaners containing bleach. These types of cleaners work great for tough stains. When you use bleach as a ceramic tile floor cleaner, it also can whiten the grout. There also harsher chemicals out there, but I would recommend that you use these first three methods, before any of them.

Mix a mild grout cleaner with water. If you decide to use vinegar or water, you can dilute these with water before you start. With vinegar, you want to use a 1 part to 1 part mixture. When using bleach, you want to use three parts water to one part bleach. Each one will make a good ceramic tile grout cleaner.

Then the next thing you want to do when cleaning grout, is to dampen the ceramic tile, but try not to get the tiles too wet. Allow the cleaners 5-7 minutes to loosen up the dirt and grime. We do this effectively by using a damp mop. Smooth ceramic tiled surfaces clean up fairly easily. You will probably need a grout brush to clean out the grout. You will spend most of your time cleaning ceramic tile grout. Once you have cleaned all the tile and grout, you want to rinse the floor with a 100% water solution. Then you will want to completely dry it with a towel or rag.

If after cleaning ceramic tile grout, there is still grout discoloration, you may need to use a stronger grout cleaner such as Tilex or a stronger concentration of bleach. Be careful with bleach if the grout you are cleaning has an original dark stain. After thorough cleaning, it may also be a good idea to seal the grout. A good grout sealer can last a few years and it will keep dirt and grime from accumulating in the grout crack.

Organic Ceramic Tile Cleaners

If you are opposed to using chemicals to clean your tiling grout, I can’t say that I blame you. One of the best organic ceramic tile cleaners you can use is a paste made out of baking soda and vinegar. Once you make the case, simply scrub it on to the grout lines in areas where it has become discolored. Let it dry for 5 to 10 min., and then rinse it off. Most of the time, you’ll be a will to get rid of this coloration the first time that you apply. If you are trying to clean around ceramic grout in your kitchen, you could also try using lemon juice. Lemon juice is very acidic.  You can help to whites in the grout lines and help them look new again.  Lemon juice also gives off a really nice smell when you use it.’

The Using Of a Steam Cleaner as a Ceramic Tile Cleaner

Steam cleaners use high pressure steam to clean off the tile and grout. It is less corrosive than pressure washing and less damaging then cleaning with chemicals.  Also the hot temperature of the steam helps to kill bacteria and it is great at cleaning out porous surfaces. It will take you less than an hour to do most jobs and you will be very satisfied with the results.

5 Steps you may be missing,on how to use the right vacuum?

5 Steps you may be missing,on how to use the right vacuum?

It always seems to come to readers as a huge surprise that I ‘only’ vacuum once a week.  I sweep daily and vacuum in between when needed, but part of the reason I only need to vacuum weekly is because the technique I use is thorough enough to get us through the week.  Today I’m sharing the 5 simple steps I follow with you – maybe it will help you maximize the task of vacuuming too.

Step 1:Use the crevice attachment (if you have one) on your vacuum cleaner first.  Vacuum the edges in each room before you vacuum the carpet.

Step 2:Vacuum horizontally in each room.

Step 3:Vacuum vertically in each room.  Yes, you are going over the carpet twice, but this technique ensures that the carpet is lifted and the dirt that may be embedded is removed.  This is especially helpful if you have pets to remove pet hair and dander.

Step 4:Vacuum from the furthest corner away from the door and vacuum your way out of the room.  This will give you those beloved vacuum lines that say,  ‘I just vacuumed’.  (Am I the only one that loves those lines?)

Step 5:Use a neutralizer if your carpet needs a little freshening.  Here’s a recipe for my favorite homemade version or you can put a drop or two of essential oil on a cotton ball or tissue and put it in your vacuum canister or bag to freshen the air while your vacuum is running.

What’s your favorite trick for vacuuming?

How to Clean a BBQ Grill,by a High Pressure washer?

Clean a BBQ Grill,by a High Pressure washer
Summer is coming. The warm sun, the cold drinks and the smell of cooking burgers and hotdogs wafting from the grill.

But after a long summer of fun and cookouts, your grill has gone through quite a bit.

All the delicious grease and fat that was cooked off the meat has now made its home inside your grill.

Don't worry though, cleaning your grill is a breeze with a high pressure washer.

There are only two things you really need to know beforehand:

1. Get a Good Degreaser
Unfortunately, most of the delicious meats we gorge on all summer long have some fat. And if you've ever washed dishes you know how impossible it can be to remove with just water.

So get a quality degreaser and make short work of the caked on grease inside your grill. Just apply it to the grill first. Let it work in for a couple minutes and then spray clean with regular water.

2. Disconnect Propane, Gas & Electricity
We all know electricity and water just don't mix. So if your grill has an electric starter, make sure you unplug it before your soak your grill with water.

Similarly, if you have a propane grill, disconnect the tank and move the connection hose out of the way.

If your grill is attached to your home's natural gas line, disconnect this before cleaning.

So,finally soon, your grill will look like new in no time.

Tips:20 Ways to Use Your Home Steam Cleaner

Steam cleaner
In your adult life, have you ever had a big carpet cleaner, a few steam mops and a handheld steam cleaner? Here are 20 of my favorite uses:

1.  Tile and grout – The most popular uses for a home steam cleaner is for tile and grout.  I like to use a brush attachment on mine so I can really get it cleaned well.  The tile and grout look new when I am finished with it.

2.  Rugs and Carpets – With an attachment, like the one on the SteamMachine Plus, you can get stains and odors out of rug carpets.  Hello parents of children and pets!

3.   Windows – Did you know that you can clean your window glass with a steam cleaner?  Yep.  My handheld unit and I are going outside for a little bit of spring cleaning.

4.  Bathrooms – A steam mop is an obvious choice for a bathroom floor.  And if it has attachments to get into the caulk around the toilet base?  Well, mothers of boys will totally understand how awesome that sounds.

5.  Curtains and Drapes – What a pain it is to iron curtains, even if you do use my self-declared genius solution of doubling up the ironing board.  With a handheld steaming unit, you can steam the wrinkles out once they are hung.

6.  BBQ Grill – Before you break out the grill for some spring and summer cookouts, give the inside of the grill a cleaning with a wire brush attachment.I bet your food will taste better!

7.  Upholstery – Unless you have slipcovered furniture, you probably can’t just throw your upholstery into the washing machine.  A handheld steam cleaning unit makes it easy to take care of stains and refresh your upholstered furniture.

8.  Glass showers – Even though we clean our glass shower weekly (okay, every other week), it still has soap scum build up.  It took me 2 minutes to steam clean the glass on the inside of the shower, and the glass looks brand new now.

9.  Halloween and Dance Costumes – I have lived a lifetime of steaming dance recital costumes in a bathroom with the shower running as hot as it will go.  It always only kind of worked.  Now with a hand held steamer, I can take care of wrinkles with no problem.

10.  Car interiors – My son got sick in my truck that was only about a month old.  Need I say more?

11.  Kitchen countertops – Steam cleaning your sealed counter tops (like laminate and granite) sanitizes them without using chemicals.

12.  Outdoor patio furniture – When you bring your patio and deck furniture out of winter storage, give them a quick cleaning with the steam cleaner to remove any build-up that could be left over from the season.

13.  Stuffed animals – Give your kids’ stuffed animals a quick sanitizing by blasting them with a shot of steam.  It will be much better than spraying Febreze on them!

14.  High chairs and trays – Speaking of kids, give their high chairs and trays a good cleaning with a steam cleaner attachment made to get into crevices.  In my parenting experience, high chairs get dirtier than most anything else.

15.  Oven doors – Yes, you are supposed to be able to see into the window in your oven.  I had no idea!

16.  Bedding – Much like drapes, bedding and duvet covers can be a pain to iron since they come folded in the packaging.  A steam cleaner makes it easy to get the creases out of bedding.

17.  Patio umbrellas and outdoor fabrics – Outdoor fabrics and umbrellas can get moldy when they are left in the elements.  That’s nothing a good steam cleaning can’t fix!

18.  Dog crates – We have one of our dogs crate trained, because he can’t be trusted when we leave the house.  A steam cleaner helps to keep his crate clean and sanitized without using harsh chemicals around him.

19.  Garments – Yep, I’m kind of lazy with the iron – have you noticed a trend in this list?  It’s easy to release wrinkles (and avoid iron burns) in delicate fabrics with a handheld steamer.

20.  Litter box areas – As a former cat owner, I can say that sometimes cats miss their litter boxes.  And then they keep missing.  Give the area around the litter box a good steam cleaning to keep them from purposely returning to the scene of the crime.

Don’t have a steam cleaner but now you know that you NEEEED one?  Well, you are in luck!

How to clean a Car Carpet,by a Steam Cleaner?

Steam cleaning a carpet is the best way to thoroughly rid it of dirt and stains. Cleaning a car’s carpets with a steam cleaner goes well beyond vacuuming. As it removes any foul odors lingering in the carpet, steam cleaning will make your car's carpets look almost new.

Things You'll Need:
Vacuum Steam cleaner Water Cleaning solution
 steam cleaner

Instructions

Remove the small carpets. Shake them to remove the worst of the dirt, rocks and larger items that might be on the top surface.

Vacuum all the car's carpeting, including the small foot rugs. Use an appropriate vacuum attachment to reach into the small spaces.

Add attachments to the steam cleaner to reach small spaces of the car. Activate the steam cleaner. According to directions, add cleaner to the steamer or apply it to the carpet.

Run the steam cleaner attachment over the carpets once it has steam. Clean the small rugs in the same manner depending on the steam cleaner.

Allow the car carpets to dry completely with the doors open. Replace the small rugs after the rugs and interior car carpets are dry.

Tips & Warnings

Try to remove the small carpets without spilling too much on the rest of the interior carpet. Make sure the car carpet is well vacuumed; a steam cleaner cannot pick up large debris. Some steam cleaners require pressing a button to spray chemical and water before being used like a carpet cleaner to suck up the excess water and cleaner; others use the steam to push out the dirt beneath the carpet. For steam cleaners that push out the dirt, move the dirt from the far side toward the door of the car and push the dirt outside the car.
Read all the steam cleaner directions. Make sure the steam cleaner you use does not need chemicals added to the water. The ideal steam cleaner for a car should have attachments that can reach into small spaces. It should also be able to remove excess water and dirt like a carpet cleaner. Depending on the steam cleaner, cleaners might be added directly to the carpet or they might be added to the machine.
