5 Steps you may be missing,on how to use the right vacuum?

It always seems to come to readers as a huge surprise that I ‘only’ vacuum once a week.  I sweep daily and vacuum in between when needed, but part of the reason I only need to vacuum weekly is because the technique I use is thorough enough to get us through the week.  Today I’m sharing the 5 simple steps I follow with you – maybe it will help you maximize the task of vacuuming too.



Step 1:Use the crevice attachment (if you have one) on your vacuum cleaner first.  Vacuum the edges in each room before you vacuum the carpet.

Step 2:Vacuum horizontally in each room.

Step 3:Vacuum vertically in each room.  Yes, you are going over the carpet twice, but this technique ensures that the carpet is lifted and the dirt that may be embedded is removed.  This is especially helpful if you have pets to remove pet hair and dander.

Step 4:Vacuum from the furthest corner away from the door and vacuum your way out of the room.  This will give you those beloved vacuum lines that say,  ‘I just vacuumed’.  (Am I the only one that loves those lines?)

Step 5:Use a neutralizer if your carpet needs a little freshening.  Here’s a recipe for my favorite homemade version or you can put a drop or two of essential oil on a cotton ball or tissue and put it in your vacuum canister or bag to freshen the air while your vacuum is running.

Too much ozone can cause respiratory problems. Ozone generators may be less safe than other air purifiers that use ionization of particles or other methods that do not rely on chemical compounds.

Even electrostatic cleaners emit some ozone and can become hazardous, depending on the size of the room they are in. The emission quantities may be well below what the EPA recognizes as safe for human beings, but they can quickly build up in a small room.

Consumer Reports tested various air purifiers and found that whole-house air filters may be the safest and most effect air filtration system. A whole-house filter replaces standard furnace filters and generates no ozone.

Prevention/Solution
Manual cleaning is the best way of reducing air pollutants indoors, according to the EPA. Limit the generation of indoor smoke from products such as candles and tobacco. Vacuum more frequently and do not store chemicals, cleaners and fuels in the house.

HEPA filters are good for allergy sufferers or those with air quality concerns. There are two kinds of HEPA filters:

·         A six-gallon vacuum accommodates small jobs and is easier to maneuver and store than a larger model. However, smaller wet / dry vacuums (less than 10 gallons) can be louder and more prone to tipping. The smaller the tank, the more often it has to be emptied.

·         A higher-capacity model (more than 10-gallon capacity and a 4- to 6-HP motor) is recommended for your workshop or garage to clean up large spills. The larger-capacity tank decreases the number of times it has to be emptied.

HEPA filters are used in hospitals, and are recommended by most doctors. The HEPA filter offers a better solution to getting rid of dust and allergens that irritate your household allergies.

HEPA filters may offer different levels of protection. To be effective the HEPA filter must be 99.97 % for dust particles 0.3 microns or larger. Before you buy you need to check the percentage of the filter. You should choose a HEPA filter that meets the industry standard for trapping dust and pollens that irritate HOUSEHOLD ALLERGIES.
