Before and after cleaning |
Many consumers believe "bigger is better" when buying a DIY Pressure washer, but that is not always the case. Each job has an optimum pressure and flow. To wash a car, use low pressure of between 1,000 and 1,300 lbs. per square inch. If you plan to strip paint, wash the siding of your house, or power wash a sidewalk, choose a high pressure unit of about 2400 psi.

A variety of attachments are used on a power washer, depending on the job. Some create a pinpoint stream while others have a wider spray. Most nozzles attach directly to the trigger gun, starting at about $20 as of 2010. Some pressure washers come with an attachment that allows detergent to be introduced into the water stream. There are low- and high-pressure injectors.

Gas Or Electric?
Gas, diesel or propane-powered pressure washers provide more mobility than electric models because they do not need a cord or electrical outlet. Electric power washers might be better for indoor applications, since they are not as noisy and do not produce exhaust. Electric units cost about $100 while large gasoline-powered commercial units cost closer to $1,000 as of 2014.
Best seller of high pressure washer |
Pressure washers are real water savers for outdoor cleaning projects at home. They can save up to 75 percent more water than a garden hose. This is because its output pressure is 50 times higher than a garden hose.
Safety Concerns
Rachel Lombardo, a senior product manager at DeWalt, reminds people that power washers are aggressive machines. High pressure washers can permanently carve names into wood and break windows. They can break asphalt. Objects flying from the jet stream can cause damage and injury. Be sure to use eye protection and never spray people with a pressure washer.
