Air Purifiers Help Sinus Problems at Night |
Use with a Humidifier
Use an air purifier in combination with a humidifier to get the most out of your night's sleep. While an air purifier eliminates the allergens and irritants found in the air, a humidifier will maintain proper moisture to reduce the irritation and inflammation in the sinus cavity, according to the Mayo Clinic. Run the air purifier during the night along with a humidifier set to 40 percent humidity. Some purifiers are a two-in-one combination of a purifier and humidifier in one unit.
Use Essential Oils
Place a damp washcloth over the outtake of the air purifier with a few drops of essential oils. Use eucalyptus and peppermint oils to help relieve congestion and tea tree oil and grapefruit seed extract to help with sinus infections, according to Wavelengths Natural Health. Once the washcloth is dry, it needs to be rewet with a new application of essential oils. It is best to place the washcloth over the air purifier an hour before going to bed while shutting the door to trap the vapors in the room. Rewet the washcloth right before going to bed to get the most out of the essential oils.
Run it All Day
Purchase a portable air purifier for your place of employment or wherever you spend most of your time in the day. While the air purifier will help reduce the sinus issues at night, it would be even more helpful if you could breathe in purified air all day long. Allow the air purifier in your bedroom to run all day, even if you're not home to keep the air as clean as possible. Keep the door closed to restrict any animal dander, dust or allergens from entering the air in the bedroom.
